Our Hotmail App is on Fire…Literally!

Just two short months after we announced the 1 million download mark for the Hotmail app for Android that SEVEN Networks developed for Microsoft, that number has now tripled and continues to grow. In fact, as of December 30, 2011 the app had reached 3.2 Million installs. And with the app now available for Kindle Fire users, we could reach the 4 Million mark before January is over! That’s right, Kindle Fire users can now download the app on the Amazon Appstore.

In general, users continue to be pleased with the app, giving it a 4.1 on the Android Market. Recent user feedback from Andrew said “Brilliant. Sets everything up for you. E-mails come through immediately not days later. Multiple accounts permitted and the layout is easy to use.” And another user said “Buried gem. I don’t know how long this has been in the market, but this is an awesome app to manage hotmail! In some respects it is better than the native android email app! Thank you MS!”

With several hundred millions users of Hotmail users worldwide, this app is rapidly climbing the ranks of the favorite apps on the Android Market. Here’s an example in the French speaking market where it’s ranked #5 in the Communication category next to Skype and Facebook Messenger.

We’d love to hear how you like the app, let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for that 4 million mark shortly!

    Hi,

When will this app support Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). I was using it on my and phone Android 2.3.4, and upgraded to 4.0, and suddenly it stopped working. Would to know about this issue. Also, will you enable searching emails and allowing more than 30 days worth of emails?

Thanks and keep up the great work.

was working fine, but within the last week upon viewing emails where sender is in contact list, the icons/options at the top for the contact block off top portion of email text and don’t seem to be able to remove them…BACK key does not function in these instances either…have to go HOME and then back in to app (using HTC Desire) fyi…uninstalled, deleted data, reinstalled, sync’d…same prob.

other…would be nice to have JUNK folder option instead of just DELETE when checking off emails to get rid of. (assuming HOTMAIL is even using them for future JUNK filtering criteria, which at times seems hard to believe given my experience with it)

    • This issue should have been fixed with the latest update to the app on the Android Market. Let us know if you’re still have issues.

      • Mike says:

yes CORRECT !! (It was because of my post that problem was opened to begin with)…so yes I was already aware…not sure why disconnect between this forum and support.

        Thanks though !!

    Hi,

Great app. Enjoy how much easier it is to use than the built in one for hotmail. I was wondering if you have an update on an android 4.0 version?

    Thanks,
    AJ

    • AJ-

Thank you for the feedback! We’re doing final testing on the version that supports Android 4.0 (ICS). An upgrade will be posted on the Android Market if not this week early next week.

    HI,

I´ve got a problem with this app, which i like.

I can´t change for example the number of a Contact on my Android phone. I only can change the Name of the contact. On hotmail.com i can do that.
    When gets this Problem fixed?

Another problem is that i can´t change the sender of the emails, when i use hotmial to import and send may gmx mails. Online on hotmail.com i can change the standard sender to my gmx mail accout.

I would be very pleased if you could help me with my problems.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my bad english

App would be much better if we could update more contact information. Currently “edit” contact only allows change of name…. not any other information like phone number, email address etc. Full hotmail contact edit please.

    • Mike says:

…would also be nice is there were diff colors or better contrast between read and unread emails as anything less than ideal lighting makes it difficult to distinguish at a glance.

  8. duduisback says:

This app is good and the syncing is almost perfect…
But what about the possibility to Edit contacts??! because you cannot edit, on the phone, the contacts that has been synced with your Hotmail account… (you can only edit them on the hotmail website). This is the only issue I’m facing on with this app… but it’s a big one…
So, well done guys, you are close to have a perfect app !! 🙂

  9. ber says:

could you explain us what is authentication method used by this app to retrieve emails from MS please ?

  10. Ronald says:

    Bugs:
    – Ability to view contents of Sent and Deleted email folders from within this app (and other sub folders) is not possible since v7.8.2.7.46.2592. This bug is not solved in current version 7.8.2.8.46.6837
    – When email is read and subsequently deleted, it is still marked as unread in Deleted folder in Hotmail on the web.

    Suggestions:
    – Open directly to account (inbox) if only one account is setup, or at least make it an option
    – Flag support

  11. Paul says:

    The APP works perfect.

I have one question: how to delete an account?

    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

Loved the app when I first installed it. Then sometime this summer I lost functionality; could be related to Android update? Lost header information, cannot read attachments. Have posted on Microsoft Answers; other users have the same problem, but no solution yet. Are you aware of this problem and is anyone working on it?
