This year seems to be all about simplicity and accessibility when it comes to mobile messaging, whether it’s traditional SMS, MMS or whether it’s email, social networking, IM, or video chat- end-users are overloaded with hundreds of messages every day and want to be able to efficiently communicate across a variety of channels without having to cross navigate apps and functions. With the rapid adoption of smartphones and social networks like Twitter and Facebook, consumers are more eager than ever to connect in a simple and functional way, driving people to a ‘one-stop shop’ for conversation.
That’s why we developed Ping, a new Android app that is now available for free in the Android Market. Ping combines all messaging apps under one umbrella and its user interface shifts the focus from applications to people, helping them easily find relevant conversations. Ping also includes SEVEN’s first text chat functionality, a carrier-deployable service that is integrated with other forms of messaging, and gives wireless carriers an opportunity to participate in a hot market now dominated by start-ups and social networking companies.
Although social networking apps provide users with the ability to communicate across a variety of device types – they are not conversation applications at their core. Users seek a personalized and glanceable experience with their mobile device. They connect with certain people in very specific ways. Consider the way you connect with your inner circle. Do you talk to your mother in the same way you talk to your best friend? Are your regularly IM’ing your co-workers but usually calling your family? We each have a unique way we connect to those around us and group messaging now enables us to decide how we want to connect and to whom we want to connect with from one place. There is no guessing game, it’s just a simple conversation the way you want it.
Ping® is the latest in mobile innovation from SEVEN, delivering an optimized experience to users with its push enabled app. SEVEN has a long history of integrated messaging solutions that are optimized to extend the device battery life and has taken this expertise to a whole new level. Ping® provides users with a simple, unified experience with all of their favorite contacts-enabling email, IM, SMS, Social Networking, and voice calls from a single location. Quickly and easily reach your contacts from one place-organized by who you’ve talked to most recently and most frequently. Download Ping today for free from the Android Market. We’d love to hear your feedback.

My thoughts on this is that Android is going to over take just about everything in a few short years.

There is no question that Android will provide richer and richer features over time. However, as shown in past and most recent release like Android 4.0, the OS always provides better support for Google services such as GMail, address book, GTalk,… which does not cover well the set of services that most consumers use. We all have a mix of services – some of them from Google some of them from other vendors.
